Jessica Starr, founder of MusEffect reached out to me on instagram one day asking if I would be interested in participating in a music video for my song "Just Wanna Dance" that she would fund, organize and choreograph - of course, I was interested! At first I thought it was too good to be true but as I dug deeper into who MusEffect actually was and learned that they are a non-profit organization committed to fostering a dialogue on social issues through performance art I understood why she wanted to work with me and my song "Just Wanna Dance" especially since the song is a satire on this generation's (and my own) social media addiction. That said, it's kind of ironic that this collaboration is all thanks to social media in the end...I am so honored and grateful that they chose my song this year and I couldn't be happier with how the final product turned out. I had a blast working with Jessica and the dancers and I really feel that the choreography captures both the message of the lyric and the spirt of the music perfectly. In honor of bullying prevention month, MusEffect teamed up with our resident poet, Azure Antoinette to create a PSA to inspire action against cyberbullying. With the mission of our dance company being to encourage dialogue on social issues through our art, it was clear to us that October was the most effective month to face this topic head on. As a means of involving the MusEffect audiences, we have created a t-shirt that promotes cyberbullying awareness. The quality of our lives depends not on whether or not we have conflicts, but how we respond to them. Follow these four MusEffect couples through their own personal paths of passion and chaos to see how they each find their own version of peace within their relationship. LIGHT IN EVERY BREATH A Journey of Hope Through Cystic Fibrosis Not every breath comes easy. Some are a battle. Some are a miracle. Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a rare genetic disease that fills the lungs with thick mucus, making each breath a little harder than the last. There’s no cure — but there is strength, there is resilience, and there is hope. Through dance and film, we honor the fighters who live this reality every day — including our own Muse, Kadyn Carroll, whose journey inspired this entire vision.
